Promoting a Child Rapist Music? I am ashamed

While I was writing this post, I received an email from one of my friend who closely reads my blog. The email hurt me a lot and put myself in a moral dilemma. For I never knew that Oliver Shanti had developed a bad reputation for himself by involving in massive crimes, sexually exploiting children (over thousand, it is said) until my friend said those in his email. The mail shocked me to the core and made me think a lot about why I should write a music post on such a person? Should I just look at his music and shouldn’t bother about his personal life (public crimes) when I write a music review?

I like this music of Oliver Shanti but I dont know if I will listen it anymore after reading some horrible facts about Oliver Shanti.

The music is one of my favorite tracks but now am in utter dilemma. Should I now love or hate Oliver Shanti’s music? Because I love children (not just children, but living beings as a such) and I cannot imagine (nor show my liking for) a person so animalistic as raping 1000 children. At the same time, I’m a music critic who loves (and rates) music unprejudiced about the person who composed it. Still, I’m no Buddha to overlook such a big nasty crime. I welcome my Midos (readers) to share their views on this.

I look at music more as an art rather than a product of an artist. I mean, critics rarely look at Ancient Greek art and discuss how is was common for the master sculpturer to accept sexual payments from their apprentice.

Don’t get me wrong. I think that if the rumours are true, he should totally be locked up. But that doesn’t mean we need to burn his CD’s.

Hi Jyle, you have said a valid point. Actually, I am divided between different opinions and your comment is helpful.

Thanks. Let’s also see what others have got to say.

Man don’t belive everything you read, and beside i love queen , even if eddy was gay.

Music has a way of showing the inside of the composer , and belive me , that music and the man is beautifull inside.
But i don’t know if Oliver is just the front man of his albums , and if some one else is composing.

I was completely caught by surprise with all this matter. What a pity… and what a disappointment.
