5 days passed since Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia’s 70th birthday. Living in Pondicherry in South India, it was not possible for me to attend the grand function in Mumbai (24hrs travel by train from my place) for Hariji’s bday. I hoped for some fans of Harji who have been to the function to upload the perforamance on youtube. Music has the magic of turning sadness into happiness, reality into dreamy, death to life (I have heard death-to-life Indian tales!). Often it happens… I found myself missed somewhere amidst New Age music, World, Celtic, Ambient, and Carnatic. I guess the title “I lost myself when I see them in Hang” may mean something dramatic if you are unaware of a relatively new musical Instrument “Hang”.

If you ask me to boil down my list of favorite tracks to just two, (why two? because Mike asked all of us just two!) I’d recommend these two tracks. For those who have been following the blog regularly, Karunesh needs no introduction nor does the track Bombay Pure, on whose remake by James Asher, I lamented long time ago. Shiva Manas Puja, the second track that I’m recommending, is a meditative chant of Lord Shiva that I listen to often.

Just Good Music

How do I feel this album?
Good Old Days lived again. And the title justifies the music.

Just Good Music, by Claude Challe and Jean Challe, is a trilogy that gives a music feel of the classic period to the modern day. The album contains 39 tracks in total and many of the tracks in this album remind me of the black-and-white days of the past (I mean the beginning of the movie era).

Buddha bar is good. No doubt about it. The countless fans and the very popularity of the series seen by the number of googlings for the name say all. I love listening to the Buddha Bar series for the cocktail experience of the world music. And if you love the Buddha Bar Series, then I’ll recommend another music album mixed by Claude Challe and his brother Jean-Marc Challe: SpaceSex (with no space between space and sex!!).
