Deva Premal’s Gayatri Mantra
Deva Premal’s Gayatri Mantra is the western rendering of the powerful eastern mantra. Gayatri mantra is called as the mother of all mantras and it basically asks for a good eye sight (inner eyes) for the chanter to see the world without illusions.
Mantra as such is very short– just four lines:
Om Bhur Bhuvah Svah,
Tat Savitur Varenyam
Bhargo Devasy Dimahi,
Dhiyo Yonah Pracho Dayat
Meaning::
Om: All of existence
Bhur: Coming, the physical world, vital energy
Bhuvah: Going, mental world, destroyer of suffering
Svah: Balance, the intellectual world, embodiment of happiness
Tat: This, 8 planes, God
Savitur: Radiant brilliance, knowledge, male
Varinyam: Adorable, venerable, supreme
Bhargo: Permeated with magnificence, destroyer of sins
Devasy: Devine, intrinsic, pure and brilliant
Dimahi: Meditation, focused, absorbed, receiving
Dhiyo: Intellect
Yonah: All beings, one going into many, female
Pracho Dayat: Inspire, enlighten, ignite
