Myths & Legends | David Arkenstone: Into the Ages of Egytian Mythology

by shankar on July 16th, 2007

myths-legends-David-ArkenstoneChange is good. Let’s have a change. I have written much about New Age Music of Indian origin and there are many chances that it appeared New Age Music is all about Eastern. Let’s break it. I’m now to share with you the music of Classic Mythology.

Mido, if you like the Mummy film or enjoy playing Ages of Mythology game, then already you have developed an interest in myths. Myths and Legends by David Arkenstone is a good music album to develop your interest in mythology through music. The album comes in two cds, the second one being “mystery” version of the cd1.

Track listing of Cd1:
Tree of Life
Legend of Bell Rock
Song of Sheherazade
Daughter of the Sun
Oceanus
Across the River
The Wolf’s Head
Temple of Isis
El Dorado
The track names listed mostly refer to many episodes of Egyptian myths and gods. Isis, Osiris, Anubis are musically well represented.

I particularly like the Wolf’s head track, though the track “Temple of Isis” has much in its name to pull my attention. Wolf as represented in Egyptian mythology is a guardian of gods and in some interpretation represents Osiris, the god of life, death and fertility. Fertility flooding of Nile river is attributed to him.

The Wolf’s Head takes us through various moods. Starting with a happy flute note which slowly blends with the percussion followed by chords played on keyboard. The track is highly energetic, full of happiness and celebration which can be romantically related with the famous “Osiris Rising from Dead” festival — sown seeds are “dead” osiris and when they sprout are identified with “Osiris rising from dead” and celebrated. How beautiful! yes, the myth and the track, alike. Each track deserves a similar applause, except for Daughter of Sun, which I felt, David could have done better.

Mido, I’ll be back with some more myths before I go back with the Eastern theme in New Age Music. Stay tuned for more myth music, subscribe to newagevibe feed.

Nice post, says much about the tracks and also says the Egyptians mythology and its connection to the album. You spotlighted on David Arkenstone (a new artist to me) though i love Prem Joshua.

    I LIKE THE CHANGE!
