The Future belongs to Fusion Music: Pandit Ravishankar

The legendary sitarist Pandit Ravishankar says the fusion music has a great future ahead, worldwide as well as in India. Sitar maestro who performed after 7 years in Kolkata, India talked to the presspersons just before his concert with his daughter Anoushka at Calcutta Club’s centenary programme on December 29.

“Fusion music will get stronger and stronger in the days ahead. It is one thing, which I always felt, was bound to happen. It is known by several names the world over like World Music, New Age Music, etc. The future belongs to fusion music,” said Pandit Ravishankar.

The 87-year-old maestro who was in US for treatment said “I have become very weak after suffering from viral pneumonia. But I still manage to put in two hours of riyaz every day”. Inspite of his old age he pursue 2 hour practice daily and also feels “I have a lot to do. Whatever I have done is just not enough”.

It is true that the quest of music lies ever in the heart of great musicians like Pandit Ravishankar.
